About Geeta Mandir

On 1 January 1992, after sacred rituals in presence of yajmans, the present Geeta Mandir Ashram was officially designated as Geeta Mandir.
It was an epochal day of Geeta Mandir in the historical city of Bhubaneswar, also popularly known as the ‘city of temples’.

For Swami Jijnasananda Saraswati and his disciples, it was a moment marking reawakening of teachings of Bhagavad Gita all over Odisha. This day was a defining moment of ‘tryst with Geeta’ in Odisha’s civilisational trajectory.

From this day on, Swamiji’s resolve to teach and take Bhagavad Geeta to every home in Odisha became even stronger. He encouraged his disciples and followers to inculcate Bhagavad Geeta’s teachings and values of karma yoga, forgiveness, bravery, sincerity, humility, care and compassion as a way of life to bring about enlightenment, peace, harmony and righteousness all around.

In the course of time, Swamiji was directed by Lord Jagannatha through dreams to build a temple in the same Geeta Mandir Ashram. Lord Jagannatha also gave him directions on how to go about this huge work of temple construction. Swamiji surrendered to the divine words of the Lord and followed the instructions accordingly.
In 1996 the temple construction was complete.
Finally on 3 April 1997, the idol of Sri Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra were enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum of the present Geeta Mandir in Pandara, Bhubaneswar. The transformative moment occurred through the chanting of mantras, accompanied by offerings of flowers, incense, and food, coupled with the performance of necessary rituals
